Below state and national rates

Raw counts don’t account for population, so it helps to compare rates. Using the most recent FBI data (2024), Yonkers had 312 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, below both the New York State rate (380) and the national rate (359). Its property crime rate was lower still: about 1,015 per 100,000, compared with roughly 1,700 statewide and nationally.

About this data

Two sources are used here, and they count slightly differently. The 2011, 2024 and 2025 counts come from the City of Yonkers. The 2024 rates come from the FBI’s national crime data, which recorded 644 violent crimes in Yonkers for 2024, fewer than the city’s own count of 729. Differences like this are common because police departments and the FBI use different reporting systems and update their figures at different times. Within each chart, every number comes from the same source, so the comparisons are consistent.
